What Is Christian Education?

One of the many things that I enjoy about my job is that I get to examine all the cool resources that are available to Christian educators and students. Publishers are constantly offering great Bible studies; Sunday school curricula; after-school, mid-week, and evening programs; and a vast array of books by knowledgeable authors that challenge and enlighten God’s children of all ages. We at FPC are able to offer a variety of materials and programs based upon the needs of our students and the preferences of our teachers and leaders.

But the truth is that the real education comes from those teachers and leaders who are willing to share more than the curriculum or study guide in front of them. These are people who live out their love for Christ and their dependence upon Him in their everyday struggles, personality quirks, weaknesses, and gifts. Our children are seeing examples of real people living in relationship with Christ that make a far greater impact than anything offered by a publishing house.

So whether you are a Sunday school teacher; a small group leader; a youth worker; an usher; a member of the choir; a musician; a librarian; a coffee hour host, a chaperone; a chef on Tuesday nights; a volunteer for soup kitchen, VBS, nursery or Young Children & Worship; a Deacon or a committee member, you are teaching all of us in ways that you may never imagine. Please know how important you are and how much you are appreciated. Thank you.

Break out the sun screen and bug spray because we’re going on Gospel Light’s Prayer Safari. We will pray the Lord’s Prayer while learning about the character of God:

• God Listens
• God Provides
• God Forgives
• God Protects
• God Rules

So mark your calendars for July 20-24 and prayerfully consider how you can be part of this adventure. We will be holding a VBS Job Fair May 23 if you would like more information about the many areas that you can serve. Student registration forms are included in this newsletter.

Child Protection Training
Child Protection Training for all children and youth volunteers will be held Friday, May 8. This time will enrich you whether you have been volunteering for several years or are new to our church and would like to understand what our policy concerning this important issue is all about.
We will begin with a potluck supper at 6 p.m., then there will be an overall look at our policy, then we will break off into specific groups to discuss the unique issues present in each ministry. Look for specifics in your mailbox and with ministry team leaders. All persons who wish to work with our children or youth are required to attend this training. Childcare will be provided, but you must register.
