Our Lord Jesus prayed in the Garden “Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.” (John 17:11)
Unity for the church is on the heart of Jesus. Our Advent and Lenten Guide devotionals help us to share with one another in a united way. Another way we can increase our bonds of Christian love and unity at FPC is to unite in reading the same devotional for all of 2009. This would be after you’ve enjoyed our own Advent booklet and Lenten Guide, throughout 2009.
By using the same devotional together, in addition to whatever other devotionals you choose to use, we can share His Word and respond to His Word with one another. Of course, this is entirely voluntary. But we ask you to prayerfully consider joining other brothers and sisters in Christ here at First Presbyterian as we seek to draw closer to Him throughout this coming year.
The suggested devotional booklet for 2009 is TODAY (The Family Altar), a small, easy to read pamphlet put out bi-monthly by The Back to God Hour Ministries International of the Christian Reformed Church. Each day’s reading includes a scripture, a devotional thought, and a short prayer. It only takes a few minutes to read, but it can give you inspiration for your whole day!
If you wish to join us, you can get your free copy of TODAY from display racks in the fellowship hall, on the table at the Calvert Street entrance, and in the literature rack at the back of the Sanctuary.
We've taken the Next Step!
Our youth, so vital to the life of the church, had long needed a state-of-the-art Christian Education Center in which to worship, study, grow and provide a witness to their faith. We celebrated the completion of this major project with a dedication ceremony after worship Sunday, February 10, 2008. Our new CEC provides areas for study, research, discussion and worship, and it includes the latest in lighting and audio/visual technology. While use of this area is primarily intended for use by our Junior and Senior High School programs, it is also used by many FPC Newport organizations and groups for meetings and conference type settings. We are thankful for the committed members and friends who have donated the needed funds to create our new Christian Education Center.
Dinner Club
FPC’s Dinner Club is a great way to get to know the people you see on Sunday while enjoying dinner, brunch or even a night out. When you sign up, you become part of a group of six or eight people who meet at their convenience at least twice during a six-month period. A different person or couple acts as host each time, providing a main dish. Others, if able, bring an appetizer, salad, dessert, or whatever group members decide. It’s informal, always lively, and open to all adults, young or old, single or attached, new to FPC or lifetime members. Please consider joining this group that can transform a Sunday handshake into a lasting friendship. Click here for more information.
